Re: Ffynnon Deml by Anonymous on Thursday, 22 October 2015

Fynnone Deml has been a constant feature in my life, never more than a few hundred yards from where I've lived, these days it is very overgrown and the source emanates about 6ft away from the actual rising place..under the briars, ferns and nettles however, sits a dome shaped rustic concrete slab, under which you can see the water rising, metal bars restrict anyone from getting under this structure.it has been extremely constant over the years, never drying up or getting greater...the course of the stream has changed a little over time..it now splits a little.one side flowing down its eternal route behind some houses and disappearing underground, the other diverting left a little, just under the surface to again rise in a local park..I have tried to find out the reason of its name, but to no avail..incidentally, there are earthworks very close by which suggest it was diverted for irrigation in times past..and the area in which it sits is called the clase..and anglicised word for clas..(a religious settlement).. I highly suspect its name derives from these ancient times, but the whereabouts of the clas is a mystery..most likely llangefelach. No more than a mile from here..

Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
