In 1999 I was sitting in a coffee house near Mt Whitney, CA, USA and picked up an American archaeology magazine that had a great article and pics of Neanderthal musical instruments reconstructed from a find in Germany that year. Drums, string instruments, and flutes, all very beautiful and sophicated in design.
