I visited Carnac in the early 1980's and found it to be a magical place. I am horrified to learn of the current problems.
Sites as ancient as this are bound to be affected by man's activities over thousands of years, but to think that the Government, which should be PROTECTING ancient sites, is actually damaging it, is unbelievable!
Carnac would seem to be the most important prehistoric site in the World, as it is the centre of a huge area of megalithic sites in the whole of Brittany, and can be linked to other sites all around the world.
Our Government has ruined Stonehenge, and as for Seahenge!!! (The Government agency had it pulled out of the sea and destroyed).
With modern technology, ancient sites can be very adequately protected without obvious intrusions such as high fencing etc.
I do hope the French government can be persuaded that it is in their interest to preserve as many ancient sites as possible - so many are under threat from modern developments, and it is very easy to devise ways of preserving them both for future research, and for many more generations to enjoy.
