I was wondering, looking at it, whether Staines church is located on a mound? I asked locally and the people in the church think it is, but that it has never been excavated, as is usually the case with churches on mounds.
Incidently the link to the Victoria County History on Staines goes to the parish section. The prehistoric archaeology is in volume .. hmmm... 1 I think, published in 1969, so late for this sort of thing. The Surrey stuff for the other bank is 1903.
