The nature of this type of monument makes restoration both pointless and impractical.
This was an earthen Rath, that is a circular mound surrounded by one or more ditches which once formed either a habitation platform or an animal stockade. The archaeological significance would have been contained within the strata of the banks and ditch fills and the area once used for domestic activity once disturbed is irrecoverable.
This site with the exception of the souterrain is not made of stone so replacement is impossible.
To put it in context these are not yet rare, some 10,000 examples are known with probably 800 in good condition. There are still some with significant internal structures and others that are still contained in a domestic setting showing a continuity of habitation for upwards of 1500 years.
It is important that this case continues to raise awareness as the remaining structures lack any real governmental protection and are still regularly destroyed.
For those not familiar with these monuments try looking at any part of Cork or Kerry on Google earth and soon you will spot dozens of these circular enclosures.
