Maybe the whole name has gone round in circles as "glas" is blue in modern Welsh. Also, I read about a C17th Welsh-English dictionary(available as a facsimile) in which "ynys" also meant a religious enclave ( akin to a diocese). Ironically I spent a couple of hours yesterday around Cardiff bookshops trying to find out if a copy of this book existed.
