Re: What *IS* happening to Silbury Hill? by Anonymous on Wednesday, 09 May 2001

Exactly right Janet. English Heritage is very conscious that finding the
right long term solution to the Silbury problems should not be compromised
by any intermediate measures or knee-jerk reactions to the situation.

There has clearly been a problem with a lack of public information
available and English Heritage are trying to remedy this. I have been told
that details about Silbury will be posted on the EH web site in the next
few days.

F&M Restrictions have only just lifted in
the Avebury area. There was a suspected case of F&M in the World Heritage
Site last week, and several confirmed cased in the area in last few weeks.
Most of the footpaths are still closed. Landowners will be distressed at
the prospect of a large gathering, even if confined to the highways and
pavements around Silbury.
