There is a problem in the 'States' concerning education in history. Those of us who were interested in the subject had to study on their own and that was when education in the subject was much better. We, who studied archaeology and ancient societies during early childhood are, I'm afraid, in the minority of even those who are interested in more recent eras, i.e., within the past thousand years. This is, of course a view point from dealing with American society. People want easy cut-&-dried answers when reflection is more important. There is always hope though.
