Re: Mystery of the Hanging Bowls by nicoladidsbury on Tuesday, 15 March 2005

Basically, we Britons have a very complicated, mixed up bunch of genes.
There was a roman auxiliary unit based at the fort on Hadrian's Wall called Aballava at Brugh-by-Sands, in northern Cumbria. This unit of soliders were from the Roman province of Mauretania in North Africa, modern Morocco. 2000 years later there are still people living around this area with unusually tight, curley hair. It can't be proved that they are the ancestors of the Roman soliders, but it is definately a possibility.
Amazing, isn't it....
