I have lived in Essex on and off all my life,I know most of these stones and places but have taken them for granted despite chasing all over the West and Sou'west looking for them.Thought the Romans,Saxons and then the Normans had obliterated most of the like in the east.
Another for the pot is in Great Leighs,outside the 12th century pub St Annes Castle,on the staggered crossroad is a large erratic...used in later years to bury some poor unfortunate old wise woman under who was branded a witch.
A thing that I hear often and always makes me laugh is when christian type people say "Ooo i wonder why (they) always plant Yew trees in Churchyards" despite the fact that alot of these trees are twice the age of the church!!
