I must say that the situation regarding silbury hill gives me some concern,
can it be that this hole has been left for nearly a year without any attempt
to consolidate and or stabilise the situation? Its all very well to talk
about paperwork etc. but if the hole has got significantly bigger and
continues to do so some immediate action would seem to be necessary. All too
often, in my experience, there seems an unwillingness to prevent the
degredation of scheduled monuments, even where they are not being damaged as
a result of class consents under the 79 act.
If it takes some sort of protest to get some action from NT and EH then so
be it and as far as I can see the foot and mouth argument is something of a
red herring. If protestors keep to the roads and other areas that are open
to the public, i.e. they abide by the governments advice then there should
be no reason why a protest should not take place. I seem to remember that
there *are* roads to and from avebury. If its just a matter of walking on
the public highway or what ever then I for one would be happy to take part.
