The mesolithic date of the river Wye camp was a the time of improved climatic conditions. My work on the Fifeshire Tentsmuir forest post holes reported by Dr John M Coles in his Prehistoric Society Proceedings 1971 paper demonstrated the hunter gatherers observed sunset at the summer and winter solstice, also the equinox in spring and autumn. A carbon date of 5800 BC was established. The ancient people are seen to have had the ability to divide the year into four quarters of 91 days. by Neil L Thomas
