From Buckland Monachorum Parish Council News:
The ancient earthworks are two concentric earthen banks, with various pits, bumps and lumps within. Its morphology is unusual - especially in a Dartmoor context - it is believed to be a late pre-historic enclosure, possibly with later interventions. It is the current feeling by archaeologists that the best way to display and protect this ancient site from damage by invasive root systems is to clear the area and maintain a close sward by grazing sheep and ponies. At the moment not only is the European gorse causing damage to below ground archaeological deposits but also its density is creating pinch-points and paths, which are creating erosion. Rather disturbing is the fact that drug users, presumably from Plymouth, are targeting the dense scrub around the earthworks with its easy access as a safe haven and meeting place.
