Excavations by the Norfolk Archaeological Trust have not shown this to be Saxon/Danish enclosure. What they have shown is that the area was used a settlement in the Middle Saxon Period (650-850 AD) up to 1200 AD. It is still thought likely that it was constructed in the Iron Age as a fort.
