I would like to say that any hiatus in funding for archaeological excavation would be regrettable, but dare I say understandable, given the absolutely dire state of the nation's finances. The one bright side that I can see is that there just might be more published formal reports on past excavations. Many important sites have been uncovered in the last 15 years, but we seem to wait for years and in some cases decades before a formal report is published.
