Re: Archaeology under threat - 'Perfect storm' of proposed cuts throws field into ch by PastMaster on Saturday, 27 November 2010

This is on top of the cuts to university funding under the last government. A proportion of archaeology students, such as myself, have been older or retired people pursuing an interest in archaeology via a university degree. Since fees are no longer subsidised for those who already have a degree at the same level in another subject, students such as myself can no longer afford to study. This doesn't just affect us, and the world of archaeology where we may well be working, researching and publishing as unpaid volunteers, it also cuts down the number of potential students and may render courses unviable. The MA course I took at the Institute of Archaeology has already closed through lack of applicants. Things can only get worse!

Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
