Garn Goch Archaeology Festival

Discover the largest Iron Age hillfort in Wales, walk on a time trail from Bethlehem to garn Goch and hear stories from the past and present along the way.

At garn Goch Iron Age hillfort, overlooking the Tywi Valley, visitors will be invited to walk back in time as part of the national festival of British Archaeology. On the weekend of 31st July and 1st August, Dyfed Archaeological Trust and Brecon Beacons National Park will be laying on a host of archaeological and historically-themed activities at the largest hillfort in Wales.

Starting at Bethlehem Community Hall visitors will be guided along a time trail up to the hillfort learning about the landscape and hearing tales of the past along the way. Within the stone ramparts of garn Goch people will be demonstrating crafts through time. Children and adults can investigate the site for themsleves through a history hunt. The weekend will celebrate the landscape of the Twyi valley, the focus of Exploration Tywi ! A community investigation led by the Dyfed Archaeological Trust. The project forms part of the Tywi River Through Time which is a landscape scheme supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, Welsh Assembly Governmnets Rural Development Plan, Carmarthenshire County Council, Countryside Council for Wales and The National Trust.
