Well on Ashtead Common by Andy B on Thursday, 15 April 2010

You may not know it but Ashtead Common
has an old well, not unlike the one for which
Epsom is so famous. Although Ashtead never
developed into a Spa town like its neighbour,
there’s evidence that its medicinal well
received some attention for its purgative
waters during the 17th century. The location
of the well, not far from the Roman Villa,
also suggests a possible link with the site’s
Roman past.

This year, we’ve been gathering research
material on the well and over the coming
months, we intend to erect interpretation
material to mark the site. Well worth doing!
