Re: Cows are key to 2,500 years of human progress by SumDoood on Friday, 09 April 2010

"[T]he cow, Our Second Mother" is starting to make me feel more than slightly sick. Many human population groups continue to manage very well with no, or very, very minimal amounts, of the milk of other mammals. There are other readily available sources of calcium, of course, (essentially green leafy vegetables and legumes), and I'd be worried if readers in 2010 were to assume that to continue with dairy farming were at all necessary in Europe.

Vast areas of land and a grotesquely large carbon footprint show (both meat and) dairy farming to be so hideously wasteful that, unless we reduce our population levels to those of 400BCE, then we are long overdue for treating such behavour as "prehistoric".

Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
