The following statement has been posted at http://www.foxhunters.net/events/burn/ . No mention that the downland is protected - they seem quite pleased with their handiwork!
BURNING BANNERS
Wilmington, East Sussex
Monday 13th September
"No Ban" fire on the South Downs in East Sussex.
The location was on the field above the Long Man on the Downs above Wilmington.
FIRE Heralds Hunting's War with Government
As the next battle looms, on Wednesday, between the Freedom loving people of Britain and the dictatorship that this Labour government is becoming FIRE will mark the new battle lines being drawn.
NO BAN fire banners were lit across the United Kingdom on Monday 13th September. In East Sussex the NO BAN fire was on the South Downs above the Long Man at Wilmington, just above the A27.
James Hallett, organiser, said "In bringing back the bill to ban Hunting in England and Wales, this Government, and Tony Blair in particular, has shown their true, vindictive, colours."
"The Government must now realise that Hunting's supporters are far more numerous and certainly much stronger than they have been credit for in the past. The return of this bill to parliament and the manner in which it will be handled on Wednesday signals an outright assault on ordinary people and everyone who believes in Freedom and Tolerance."
"The Government has chosen the path of Prejudice and Spite the reaction it unleashes will be entirely its own responsibility. The lighting of the NO BAN fires are our signal to this government that we will not be beaten by such bigotry and intolerance."
Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
