I had understood that Prezwalski's horse was a savannah dweller, although one of the reasons for its extinction was loss of habitat and being driven to survive (or fail to) in desert conditions. It is also virtually undomesticable. The forest dweller appears to have been the tarpan, which survived in Poland until relatively recently, and was domesticable. It has been "rebred" though how similar the present version is to the original, who knows!
