Hi, I live in Minera and was brought up in the areas in and around the Ruabon plateau so that I am familiar with its many moods and this is a stunningly atmospheric piece. This mountain holds many secrets. I am currently working on a research paper which will reval at least some of them. For example, the cairn group on the Eglwyseg escarpment which includes the standing stone is actually conciously arranged to represent star arrangments in the Ursa Major asterism specifically, the Plough, Arcturus, and Leo. One of the old names for one of the Eglwyseg bluffs is "Tair Naid y Cath" (three leaps of the cat) a direct reference to the well known interaction between Leo and Ursa Major currently known as "three leaps of the Gazelle" but in earlier times, "three leaps of the lion" from the Arabic star naming protocols. They had several names for Lion including "cat". There are other connections to be made with other rock formations.
The paper will attempt to prove several things but amongst them that the Ruabon Mountain plateau was a very early proto Celtic observatory representing the Zodiac in its entirety and as such would qualify for:
1. Taliesin's Caer Sidi. 2. One of the "Petrai Ambrosiai" - in the list of the "Three Mighty Labours of Britain" from the Triads. 3. Given its location within line of site with Dinas Bran and triangulated with valley Crucis Abbey, that this site is the very origin of the Grail Quest theme in Arthurian literature. 4. That one of the sites I have identified accords entirely with that described in encrypted form in the Melkin Prophecy (i.e that attributed to Maelgwn Gwynedd) - I have recently decrypted the prophecy.
