This is a remarkable eye-opener. I grew up in Pen-y-cae, just a a short hop down the hillside from Eglwyseg Mountain. I spent a large amount of my teenage years hammering around the moorland and escarpements of the area but had no idea about their historic connections. Neither have I read George Borrow's Wild Wales but quite fancy digging it up now.
This is a fascinating read and far more detailed than anything else I've ever come across about what I consider my own backyard. I live in Liverpool now and only get back once in a while to these hills. Your article is genuinely evocative and interesting.
