I was a long time, avid user of metal detectors and this article is one sided. If there are legitimate historical sites then why is it that colleges and universities have not used metal detectors to unearth these finds?
Under water metal detecting has suffered similar claims by archaeologists. Yet no treasure vessel has ever been found by anyone in the archaeology community.
The sum of it is that private individuals show great dedication in searching and finding valuable objects and most of these folks willingly hand over found objects that are of historical importance. The number of school rings and wedding rings returned to people who lost them years ago by metal detectoriists is impressive to say the least.
