I find this somewhat less than alarming, consider this, that certain individuals in the past were allowed to remove ancient structures and re-assemble them on their own property,( and that those structures have remained there). That also in the past there was the astounding fact that a few companies in Britain were formed to melt down ancient native gold artifacts for the bullion value. so a few small fragments of various cultures show up on eBay. I'm sure that nothing of significant value would escape the eyes of Scotland Yard's Special Branch.
I am also glad that the article pointed out the positives of more responsible metal detectorists and what they have given to the overall heritage of Britain.
