""Xenophobic" leaflet shock in Edzell

EDZELL and its surrounding area has been the unlikely setting for a race related row, with leaflets which have been described as "xenophobic" by the leader of Angus Council being distributed and stuck to bins.
The issue was raised at Inveresk Community Council by Community Councillor Agnes Lowden, who said that she had been informed that the flyers had been distributed by a group called Campaign for Scottish Democracy around Glen Esk, with derogatory comments about Millden Estate and 'foreign land owners'.
Mrs Lowden explained to Monday night's meeting: "I have been told there are notices going up about Millden Estate which have a few derogatory comments on them, although I have not actually seen them.
"I probably agree with the bulk of it, but the end comment is quite racist against the English and totally unacceptable."
The leader of Angus Council Bob Myles had seen the flyers first hand and expressed his disgust towards them at the meeting, saying: "The leaflets are quite xenophobic and quite out of order. They are made by a group called Campaign for Scottish Democracy, but what they are doing is not very democratic and the police have been made aware of the flyers."
This news follows hot on the heels of Edzell's Union Jack flag being stolen and its flagpole vandalised just one day after it had been put back into place following a previous theft, and Inveresk chairperson Charlie Simpson told the meeting that such vandalism was disgraceful.
"There has been vandalism on Edzell Muir with the flag begin removed again," he said.
"It really is disgraceful, and I hope it is not locals who are carrying it out.""
