Re: Extreme Archaeology by TimPrevett on Friday, 18 June 2004

I do not mean to be sexist - no indeed!

Archaeologists can of course wear nice clothes - but three things here, in my understanding, give a slant on this.

1) Its very title "extreme" archaeology - it's something different, a bit racey, adrenaline, dangerous. So pics of the cast 'ready for action' as it were in dangerous places need to convey that sense.

2) It is a media product - so I understand that the show has been produced to give a particular buzz, a look. (as all progs are. The producers want to produce a particular product).

3) My likening to Lara Croft - I do not mean in terms of being well mammarially endowed - but ropes to ready in body hugging climbing suits etc. I've never played the game nor seen the film, but I find Lara Croft quite absurd anyway.

From what I have seen of a couple dozen archaeologists digging away this week, they are regularly covered in dirt and sweat. All have been comfortably, suitably dressed for their job.

Best wishes

Tim
