The farmer at the foot of the fort (who I believe has subsequently moved on) once told me not to be taken in by the large mound of stones in the middle of the fort which was piled there in recent times (i e within his memory), he thought by the Ordinance Survey to create a better survey point. Seems unlikely to me, but I guess it should at least be viewed with suspicion.
