Very nice detailed article. I am always interested in how the first encounters between Natives and Europeans worked out. As the article notes, it was not nearly as violent as we originally thought. This fall I read A Cultural History of the Native Peoples of Southern New England, which is written by two Natives about this early time period and I was generally surprised to learn how welcoming the Natives originally were. It was not until later that they began to fight the colonizing Europeans.
