This magnificent standing stone lives beside the busy A40 just inside the entrance to the Welsh Brigade army camp just to the south of Crickhowell. No Entry signs and “MOD Property, Keep Out” signs are posted everywhere, so I did. However a fine view can be had from the roadside, where there is a convenient lay-by to park in just opposite.
Over 4 metres high, “The Growing Stone” looks most impressive, and although it is right beside a busy road, it has a pleasant grass and trees area around it.
