Yes, a good point and I'm guilty of it too. I avoid the pylons, tourists and cars as much as the next guy. But I think it is instinctive to seek out purity in the landscape - to glimpse some sort of mythic vision (Albion?) that we've lost, perhaps. Guess I'll keep on doing it anyway.
On the dog thing, our cairn was an absolute pain in the arse when I visited Waylands a few months ago. Luckily there was no one else there to have their ambience ruined by his over-excited behaviour. Sadly, it wasn't particularly out of character either.
