Archaeologists Discovered Early Man Site in Khabarovsk Territory
A site of prehistoric humans of the ice age has been found in the Solnechniy District near Lake Evoron
VLADIVOSTOK, November 13, vladivostoktimes.com Archaeologists have found a site of ancient humans of the Stone Age. The site dates back 15 thousand years ago, the Khabarovsk Museum of Archaeology reported to RIA PrimaMedia.
"The site, which dates back to the end of the ice age, has been found in the Solnechniy District, not far away from Lake Evoron. A total of four similar sites have been found in the Territory in the area of the low Amur, but this one is the largest," said Andrei MALAYVIN, the Chair of the archaeology department at the Khabarovsk Museum of Archaeology.
He noted that the ice age is considered to be understudied, that is why any new site of that time is a big luck. "The people who lived at the site near Evoron were most likely mammoth hunters. Stone pikes of darts, arrow-heads, and knives, which were found during the excavation, testify to it. Similar objects were found in Yakutia," he said. Mr. MALYAVIN specified that neither animal skins, nor bones were found there. Organic matter does not last long in local aggressive acidic soils.
According to Mr. MALYAVIN, the hunting weapons were excavated during an archaeological expedition this year. The area of future excavations is quite promising, and there should be enough work for several years. Next year, if the budget permits, a large archaeological expedition will set off to Lake Evoron.
