Re: Scabba Wood Rock Shelter by coalmonkey on Thursday, 06 September 2007

Condition:4/5
Ambience:4/5
Access: Very easy this one unless they have added locks to the rusty old Iron fence!! I used to play down here as a 'young un' and would never of guessed that this was an ancient Rock Shelter.
Anyway access can be made via the Sprotborugh side of the River Don, simply park your car at the river bridge and walk towards Doncaster down the left (if you are going the right way) side of the River. After 5-10 mins keep looking up the embankmant to the left and you will see what looks to be 2 deep holes (I think they look like nostrils!!). The last time I was there there was what looked to be a Victorian Iron fence around the site. However this dosent ever appear to of been maintained and was in a poor state and many of the railings were missing.
Access though is very easy and it is worth it. The smoke staining on the walls and graffiti spoil it a little but there you go.
