Dear Graham
To suggest that what you described is what has 'probably always been done' at Stonehenge is to stretch the imagination a little too far. Of course your guess is as good as mine on the real uses of the stones but standing around puffing on spliffs, supping ale and pretending to be a druid is unlikely to be exactly what the early folk were up to. Neither is clambering all over the ***** things. The solstice gathering at henge attracts some right wankers unfortunately; hedonistic knobshines up from London that think thay are living in some sort of Arthurian legend, or soup brained losers intent on ***** it up for the people who have a grip on reality and appreciate these ancient sites genuinly, and not as a place for a party, thinly disguised as plastic druids performing silly made up rituals. The Romans stamped druidism out in Britain when the 'wise ones' were cuttiing poor bastards open alive to read their future from twitching entrails.
Yeh lets respect those religious rights!
