Sure - love to see more information - it does sound pretty controversal, although there's been thoeries of "punctuated" evolution before.
But, I assume by "put-on" you mean the theory is bad or unsupported by fact, and not that it is some sort of prank?
I've not seen this episode of Nature yet (I have it on tape.) But I was told by someone who did see it that the argument is not that early man intentionally bred wolves into dogs, but that canine's genetic make-up helped a natural selection for wolves that were less disposed to "flight" to evolve into a "proto-dog". Man didn't breed the animals intentionally - man's changing life style into semi-sedentary was the trigger for scavenging wolves to evolve.
If true, its a really interesting theory.
