I can't believe the insensitivity of the Irish government. I don't often get upset about things like this, but the idea of a "clover-leaf junction 50 metres from the north" of that unique site brought me close to tears. If it IS built it will disturb the land that the ancestors walked on as they entered Tara to perform their ceremonies.
In 2001 I spent an afternoon dowsing there, picking up what I believed to be the route of processions that took place in its hey day. From inside the site, I found that the so-called "Banqueting Hall" funnelled the procession into the site (and then on to the other features) from the north. If it does extend further north, the present road already cuts diagonally across that feature, but it is a narrow country road, and we can live with that. (Can we?? - Maybe that should go too?)
Please, please take the time to write to the Irish Government (I did) even if you still haven't visited. It really IS a worthwhile cause!
That was a very eloquent letter from the experts, and was moving to see all those important names at the bottom. Someone is obviously listening, but more protests from people who love Ireland would maybe just tip the balance!
Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
