The Smithills stone rows are 1. Brown Stones, 2. Counting Hill, 3. Burnt Edge, 4. Thurstones. The first row is aligned to the most northerly moonset, the second to the most southern moon set, the third to the most southern moon rise and the fourth to the most northern moon rise. As two of the rows are angled there are also alignments to the rising position of Spica, at the Thurstones, and to the setting position of Deneb, both at 2000BCE. Counting Hill also gives a good result for the Winter Solstice sunset and the Thurstones to the sunrise at both May Day and Lammas. 1, 3 and 4 are very close to a tarmac road and No. 2 is best approached from the Winter Hill transmitter 'with care'. The Burnt Edge stone row is registered with the community of folks observing the lunar standstill in 2006.
The rows aren't anything special monumentally - just big stones in the grass - but the precision with which they are laid out is unique and different. Another pair of researchers is turning out new finds, stones, cairns and cromlechs, in the moorland a few miles to the north.
I'm glad you didn't ask for the bog body reference ! The object was lost somewhere near (or inside) Preston Museum many years ago.
