Re: Bretons fight for Carnac to stay in the Stone Age by Anonymous on Tuesday, 13 March 2007

There seems to be no easy way to please everyone, either at Carnac or Stonehenge, but one thing is certain--neither can take a stream of a million visitors each year without protection. Been on the inside of SH after heavy rain? A mud puddle. Imagine 7000 pairs of feet a day tramping through it. Churning up ground that is still archaeologically sensitive. Taking away,or trying to take away, bits of 'sacred' stone/earth (yes, people have been known to start trying to dig into the bank of the henge.) At present the barrier to Stonehenge is NOT terribly intrusive-a single rope about 18 inches high. Special access can be booked to go into the stones as well,so it's not all gloom and doom if you must go in. Having booked access at least weeds out those who REALLY want to go in,from those who just want to say they've been there.
I don't know if they have similar schemes at Carnac but it might be something they should think about.

Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
