A point of clarification on the "Oliver Phase." These designations are based on similarities of artifacts and features found at the sites. Villages designated "Oliver Phase" are found in Indiana's White River watershed region. Dating puts them at the end of the "Woodland" tradition and the first part of the "Mississippian" tradition, but there is great overlap between radio carbon dates, and the type of artifacts and features. "Oliver Phase" sites are generally refferred to as "Late Woodland" but sometimes called "Early Mississippian."
