The only down side to visiting Stonehenge at all is all the other "tourists" - they're the ones on a timescale who rush around and don't get to appreciate the quite and aura of this place. I find it best visited in the winter - no so many foreigners (I am a local and would not want to spoil the area for anything in the world) It might be a good thing to put people off if they knew they had to walk any distance to get to the circle. How many miles did our ancestors have to walk to visit this special place, rather than be dumped by the coachload right on the doorstep.
