Absolutely fascinating detective work (and some fine orienteering skills on a fast learning curve) on these enigmatic and thoroughly wonderful, stones - these sites are sometimes within visual contact with each other - I've noticed that with some sites in Northumberland (Celtic hill forts at the Northern edge of the Cheviot massive range).
Maybe a case of smoke signals? - a la, American Indian style. Lines of communication would obviously have to be fast in times of tribal war. However, in peaceful times (there must have been some) other communication lines would have been established.
Superb writing style, and an absorbing insight into the atmospheric area of North wales - Celtic kingdom of Gwynedd.
