As the article mentions there are many "jumps" across the US and Canada. "Head-Smashed-In" is a fantastic site with a great museum explaining it. (I visited in 2000 - I've been trying to figure out how to transfer my slides easily to an electronic file.)
The argument about the CO site seems to be how early the people could have pulled off this kind of kill. All this ought to take is a bone with cut marks on it.
The "alternate theories strike me as pretty unsubstantiated. The idea that stone tools can easily "migrate" to a deeper strata of soil sounds like opening a can of worms no archeologist wants to support.
