Campaigners lodge gravel pits protest
A 200-page dossier opposing gravel extraction in the Wallingford area has been sent to Oxfordshire County Council.
The document from Page -- the Parishes Against Gravel Extraction protest group -- objects to quarrying on a number of grounds, including archaeology, ecology and water supplies.
Page chairman John Howell said: "This report closely argues the reasons why there should not be any gravel extraction here. It's wrong of the county council to blight an area like this."
An ecology report commissioned from the Environmental Research and Advisory Partnership backed up PAGE's objections.
Areas which would be affected include Wallingford, Benson, Crowmarsh, Stadhampton and Dorchester.
