Re: St John's Well by Rory on Sunday, 07 May 2006

Cheryl’s book is invaluable, always in my backpack on my Cornish expeditions. J. Meyrick (A Pilgrim’s Guide to the Holy Wells of Cornwall and their Saints) saw the well in 1979. He found it at the headland, near where a field hedge joins the coastal path “in a small quarry. The water is clear but covered with green algae and the overflow escapes through the hedge to the rocks below.” I visited the area three times but found nothing convincing. I hope that someone out there might feel inspired to track it down. (Incidentally, it’s an awesome walk to Stepper Point.)
Straffon was writing at least eight years ago. It would be sad if St. John’s Well were now be lost. It is tragic that so many of the locals we spoke to were quite oblivious.

Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
