The fuss about yew tree poison is because of the threat of litigation. In our compensation culture, imported from USA, anyone will sue anyone for anything if they can get some "compo". Just look at all the television adverts for injury and accident compensation lawyers - "no win - no fee and nothing taken away from the money you are awarded!"
That is the reality and it has absolutely nothing to do with nanny states, Iraq, ID cards or any such smoke-screen fashionable cant. It's about American derived greed and the need for local authorities, churches, public bodies, landowners etc to avoid expensive payouts by minimising risk. I deplore it too and hate the over caution - but put the blame where it lies and think for yourself.
