Additional info and directions from DrewParsons.

This pleasant, well preserved dolmen is located to the east of the town of Seiches-sur-le-Loir down the gravel lane running north from the D766, 100 metres west of the A11. There is a sign post " Pierre au Loup" at the junction of the D766 and this lane. The lane runs north for 100 metres and then turns north west. 80 metres from this turn the dolmen can be seen 25 metres into the woods on the north (right) side of the lane.

In winter the site would be much easier to locate than in spring when it was hidden by tree growth at the time of my visit in Aril 2010. The lane ends at a farm a further 300 metres or so on so don't drive that far.

This pleasant, well preserved dolmen is located to the east of the town of Seiches-sur-le-Loir down the gravel lane running north from the D766, 100 metres west of the A11. There is a sign post " Pierre au Loup" at the junction of the D766 and this lane. The lane runs north for 100 metres and then turns north east. 80 metres from this turn the dolmen can be seen 25 metres into the woods on the north (right) side of the lane. The GPS given on the Meg Portal site is incorrect, my hand held GPS at the site gave: 47.57108N 00.33575W. In winter the site would be much easier to locate than in spring when it was hidden by tree growth, although I had been expecting to find it further along the lane given the coordinates on the website at the time of my visit in Aril 2010. The lane ends at a farm a further 300 metres or so on so don't drive that far.

Sorry you had difficulty finding this Drew, this is why we have given a rating box for the accuracy of the coordinates. Unless the site has a rating of 4 or 5, then you have to be careful and not just follow the coordinates "blindly". Sometimes, in the days before the accuracy rating, a comment will have been written as a note in the description.

Many of the sites on the portal have been added with only the nearest village or an approximate position given, after finding of their existance on a basic map or in a historical monument record. This is then the fun part of hunting them down in real life.

Often in France these sites may be marked on the 1:25000 ign maps which can be called up for the area via one of the blue buttons at the top of the site page to give better info, but certainly not in all cases. Often, it requires much more persistance to find the site, and a trick I use in France is to go to the local Mairie if the community is known, and they sometimes have a map outside, with local monuments and features marked on it, or perhaps a series of suggested walks. Sometimes the name refers to a "lieu dit", perhaps a farm name, in which case you can find that on the map, then have to hunt around using your stonehunting sense, or ask a local.

Sometimes, but not in this case, the site is one I hunted down during my trip in 2005, but have still to get round to adding my info on here, which is unfortunately the case for several hundred sites!

It was not a real problem finding Pierre au Loup - I am used to hunting down sites like this one!! I drove along on the lookout for it and was lucky. I own a number of the IGN series 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps and do use them, although I have relied on the Meg Portal ACME maps too. Generally the Meg Portal locations given in France are pretty good (probably much thanks to your work over the years). Your suggestions regarding other sources of info is very helpful. Some of the Meg Portal Spain and Portugal locations were clearly less reliable and I am contributing GPS coordinates for the sites there which I visited.
