Standing Stone (Menhir) in Flintshire

The stone can be easily visited within Y Wyddgrug (the town of Mold). Situated a short distance along Milford Street and set within the churchyard wall the stone does not attract much attention mainly due to it being obscured by parked vehicles on a daily basis.

The stone is made of roughly hewn sandstone and stands 1.78m. It is set within the churchyard wall, which is otherwise made up of dressed stone. It measures 0.68m at its widest. A metal bolt has been fitted centrally about 25cm from the top and there is a bolt hole a little lower. The stone is considered to date from the Bronze Age (Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust).

Y Wyddgrug (Mold) developed around a Motte and Bailey castle site built by the Norman Lord Robert de Montalt circa 1140 during the invasion of Wales by Anglo-Norman forces. St Mary's Church dates from the 15th century.
