Standing Stone (Menhir) in Rogaland
This is a amazing burial site! Most impressive is a tall slender beautiful standing stone! The site is located high up on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islands around and the farm fields of Rennesøy making it a wonderful view! The site is inside a grazing field for sheeps so the vegetation is constantly been kept at a minimum.
The stone is visible for several kilometres away high up in the hill, both from the sea and the highway and surrounding landscape. It is 4,6 metres in height, around 1,2 metres wide and 50cm thick at the base and the sides narrows towards the top which ends in a point. The stone is called locally "Austhaugstyttå".
The site also consists of 4 round barrows. The largest is a beautiful round barrow around 20 metres wide and around 2,5 metres in height. It is located on the highest point of the hill and is also easily visible. It has a deep crater on the top. The second largest barrow is around 15 metres wide and 1,5 metres in height. The site is very "hilly" and ruggid and some of the small bumps in the terrain could be more barrows.
