Round Barrow(s) in Yorkshire (North)

Situated in a prominent position on the south east corner of Glaisdale High Moor its name derives from Old Norse and means “Look Out Hill”. It is an earth and stone barrow 25m in diameter and 2.5 m high, it has a robbed out centre into which a modern cairn has been built. Today it marks the junction of four parishes: Glaisdale, Egton , Rosedale East Side and Hartoft. Also the route of the Lyke Wake Walk which follows the NW / SE boundary line runs through here. This is Historic England List Entry Number 1018763 and more details can be found there. This is also Pastscape Monument 60476 which also has details.

About 100m to the south west of Shunner Howe is another smaller barrow 9m in diameter and 1m high again with a robbed out centre. This barrow which is at SE 73593 99652 is probably associated with Shunner Howe and is Historic England List Entry Number 1018764. Pastscape also has information at Monument 60479
