Ancient Cross in Yorkshire (North)

This is Historic England List Entry Number 1178825 and full details and description can be found there.
Located on Lealholm Moor just east of Danby Beacon it was a waymarker cross which marked the junction of two ancient tracks. One running east/west which at this point was known as Stonegate and another running north towards Staithes known as Leavergate. The medieval base of the cross itself has been mounted on a couple of stone slabs with a short piece of what was probably part of the upper cross shaft wedged into it. There are other pieces of stone which could have been part of the shaft lying about it.

R.H.Hayes in his 1988 book - Old Roads and Pannierways in North East Yorkshire page 21 surmises at one time this may have been the Roger Cross mentioned in early boundary perambulations.
